Surrender

"Surrendering is not weakness, it is strength. As it takes tremendous strength to give up that which brings love and joy."

Coming to the realization that a beloved pet needs to be rehomed is often difficult, upsetting and quite often an emotional time.  There are many different reasons that may lead to this realization, loosing a job or home, for health reasons, change in family dynamics, time constraints or other hardships. Sometimes, it can be that "pet to person (family)" match just isn't right.

Whatever the reason is, once you have come to this realization quite often you are met with the additional stress of finding the right home for your pet.  This stress often is compounded when considering reptiles as they generally have more specialized care needs which can make finding a new home for them more difficult.

Here at Python Addiction, it is one of our missions to support the reptile community as a whole and to help who we can, when we can, when it comes to these types of situations.

We do this by offering reptile owners who need to surrender a judgement free place to do take on some of these responsibilities for you.  As such we are happy to take on surrenders on a case by case basis. If you would like to consider surrendering your reptile to us please take a moment to review our guidelines and policies.

General Guidelines

We take in surrenders on a case by case basis, as such you must reach out to us prior to making any arrangements to drop off or ship your reptile to us.

At this time we are only accepting snakes that are "Legal" in the state of NY.  However, if you have another reptile you are looking to surrender please do not hesitate to reach out as we may be able to refer you to another person or agency who may have availability.

  1. Surrendering your reptile to us is done with the understanding that we are not paying you anything for the surrendered animal or anything that may come with them such as enclosure or other accessories.

  2. There is no fee for in-person "Local" drop-offs.  (Donations are always appreciated as it helps to further support this program).

    • If you are needing to ship your reptile to us these expenses will be your responsibility, and must be done through one of our reptile shipping agents following their guidelines and procedures to assure your pet arrives to us safely.

  3. All surrenders must undergo an intake process for review prior to them being surrendered to assure we have the space and ability to care for the animal.  All information gathered during this intake will be kept confidential.  This intake process will also require a release to be signed acknowledging that you are transferring ownership of the animal to us and not getting anything in return.

  4.  We ask for copies of any vet records for the animal that are available to be provided at the time of surrender.

If you are interested in surrendering your animal please reach out to us via our Contact page.
